What if just for today.
Second lasted for an eternity.
If every second, lingered on your tongue.
If this second right now
This very one you have right here
That one that’s already gone
before you even noticed where it went
The one before you forgot,
you were meant to be thinking about this second..
think about this second
before it disapears
before it moulds into the 59th second
of a 60 second minute
of the 61st second
of the 3600th of the hour
of the 3601st second
of the 86400th
of the next 24 hours
of the 2,419,201st second
of the next 7 days
of the 2,419,201st second
of the next 30 days
ok, you get the picture
I could go on.
In fact, say we live an average of 80 years
That’s 2 billion, 322 million, 432 thousand, 960 seconds in a lifetime.
All joined by this very moment
That’s already slipped away
melting into the past
and you didn’t even notice
because you’re too busy concentrating
on that other second
the one we started with
before you forgot you were even thinking about seconds
~and your stomach distracted your attention
because you haven’t eaten yet...~
and so what if this second now
could be adored like the first time your lips met your lover
a hot. spicy lover
not the friend you kissed to see what it would feel like,
and realised they’re more like a sibling
but a lover that their tongue
is so encased in yours
hands fumbling
legs entangled
breath quickening
short, sharp exhales
long, heart filled moans
the type of second that makes you forget everything else exists
what if every second felt like this?
~we probably wouldn’t get very much done~
but what if every one of those
2 billion, 322 million 432 thousand, 960 seconds in a lifetime
were made up of seconds in love?
when I think about all of the seconds I spent worrying, doubting, quiestioning
all of the seconds I felt unworthy
not good enough
crumbling under the pressure of this person I’ve created
this life I’ve built
scared that any second now
it could disappear from under my toes
the seconds I fear they’ll find out I’m a fraud
living a lie
letting my good old friend imposter syndrome
sit nagging on my shoulder
no thank you
I’m here for sweet nothings
whispered in my ear
for the embrace of love
to wrap me up
and remind me that
this second is the most important second I have ever had
have ever had
and will ever have
those words on the tip of your tongue?
that conversation you have with yourself when no one else is listening?
the actions you take when no-one else is watching?
it’s in those seconds
the ones we think are so irrelevent
because there’s a much more important second next week
when I have a presentation to give
or that second last month
when I should have said
what I really felt
no
those seconds are gone
they don’t exist yet
the second you have right here
snuggled between this second and that other second
this is the only one that counts
so I step back
shake myself off
make the ugliness and the beauty of this second my priority
and remember
time and time again
that all we have is the now
the cherry between my lips
biting the flesh around the stone
wrapping my tongue around those words
that have suddenly melted into the past
but linger for a second longer
imprinted on your experience
your unique adventure
of those 2 billion, 322 million 432 thousand, 960 seconds
that make up your lifetime.
Wonderful Niamh ❤️
